It does not matter how you are feeling if you are committed to it.
But… you should be able to reflect on how you are feeling.
I’m not feeling happy or motivated today… so I thought I could just postpone my writing.
But when I start writing about anything, things change. And when I think about myself again, I’m still not motivated, but a new text is done.
That’s when I can understand that I’m a professional committed to some projects. There are things I can put off, don’t get me wrong. But there are things you know you are capable of doing, not because you are sad or happy, but because you can do them. You have the technique, you have everything you need. You practice, you know what to do.
So do it.
I remember when I started writing poems (just do them in Portuguese) and I would always write a poem when I was sad or angry.
After many courses and mentoring sessions with professionals, I understood that I must be able to write, using metaphors and other techniques. So I started this project called “Diz uma palavra” (Say a Word), where I take a word from someone and write a poem about that topic.
That was a hack I built in order to make my practice become something detached to my feelings. And I care about what I’m feeling, but I’m also attached to my practice.
