The Fear Of Missing Anything. It’s here.
We used to talk about FOMO, the Fear Of Missing Out.
The response was about getting the Joy Of Missing Out.
Now, it’s different.
It’s not about getting Joy out of an experience.
It’s an anxiety based experience. Not something practical to “be here now”.
Lots of things are happening at this moment. To become a specialist in something may not be the best move, since we have lots and lots of models specialized into things that would take too long to learn from zero.
It’s not possible to know everything, for sure. If you have the experience already, good for you. If you don’t have, don’t even bother. Make sure you understand how to manipulate what’s needed to get a job done.
Looking at the long term, sure, build knowledge and become experienced in whatever makes you happy. But on the short term, learn what you need to move forward.
I don’t know yet how to avoid FOMA… but I’m using this structure to understand what I will learn and be specialized:
- List of what I will NOT be great at.
- List of what I will BEGIN to learn about.
- List of what I will become SPECIALIST.
The most important list is the one where you will define what you will NOT be great at. You will find people specialized or models (agents) that will be able to express the knowledge you need.
