This is from Seth Godin:
“All important work is ridiculous until it makes an impact, and then it becomes art.” — Seth Godin
There are lots of things considered ridiculous when I started caring about… but somehow those things made my work life a reality.
From programming languages to project management methodologies, usually I was on the other side, studying stuff considered “not useful”.
Today we develop software and there’s no more questions about the importance of tests and automation. Back in 2003-2004 that was not the case.
Same for delivering using short cycles… or even better, delivering continuously. The connection to the real world is very important. And although some people still believe it’s better to plan during a long time and take decisions based on one single brain… the world is getting the results of showing up as soon as possible.
Care about your art.
