Meetings should bring people to work together. It should be a powerful moment.

Not a moment where people are trying not to sleep.

Seth Godin brings a little gold:

If you want someone else to take the blame and give you the credit, you will wait a very long time.
— Seth Godin, Icarus Deception.

So, if you are in a meeting supposed to act, act! The thing about meetings (other than an alternative way of work đź« ) is that meetings can be useful to bring people together. Kind of a “synchronization” mode.

Every meeting should have a purpose and:

  • questions to be answered (decision making).
    You’re on delivery mode.
  • questions to be created (warmup topic + brainstorm).
    You’re on discovery mode.

If you are not in a meeting to take action, you may be there to act as a facilitator or mediator. If that’s not the case, why are you attending a meeting? Check your focus again.
