I love metaphors, don’t get me wrong. But I’m discovering that, apart from poems, I need direct communication.
Not rude. Respectful. But direct. I need to ask what I need and then explain why I need it or want it. What are my arguments.
I was thinking that if I ask things using the minimal WWW structure (What/Where/When), I might be fine. Like “I would like to invite you to have a coffee at X at Y time”.
Sometimes I’m adding an available time slot but I don’t tell you what I’d like to do… and the noise can be loud. Don’t leave room for thoughts, especially in asynchronous communication, where you may take a while to respond.
