I got into questions:
- Who do I choose to become?
- Who do I choose to remain?
Remain word got me. Definition: “Continue to possess a particular quality or fulfill a particular role. Continue to exist, especially after other similar or related people or things have ceased to exist. Stay in the place that one has been occupying.“
Usually I’m more focused on become something, transformation and new projects… but I was looking at my self, looking at my 28 year professional journey (so far) and understanding that there is a lot more into remain rather than become. There are things I do for 28 years. Things I do for +15 years, and so on.
I see myself adding more and more identities into my life, as a son, cousin, brother, basketball player, software developer, researcher, writer, poet, entrepreneur, community leader, agilist, professor, video maker, tennis player, father, podcast host, drummer, uncle… those remain throughout the years. Some of them with more or less energy applied, I must say.
The discipline to take care of all those identities, I believe that it’s less related to discipline (I’m an organized mess) and more related to questions and curiosity. Because of my practice, because of questions, I take myself more into discipline, to be able to take care of the projects I want to keep learning from. Those projects will energize my identities.
Have you ever thought about who you choose to remain? That question got me thinking real hard. And I will keep thinking about it today.
